Umraniye Past, Present and Future
Umraniye has been the heart of manufacturing in the 1970s and the place for trading and finance in 2000. After the earthquake in 17 August 1999, people became more cautious of the sections of Istanbul which has a solid ground. The wealthy residents decided to move to Umraniye as it is a very safe section. At the time, the only luxurious development in the area was the My City project. However, as the demand increased, Umraniye undergone a transformation.
The new image of Umraniye attracted many foreign and local investors, including Bosch, Siemens, Casper, Bayer, Renault, Citibank, Finansbank and Nobel Medicine. Ikea shop is also situated here. Umraniye has a great location as it is located right in the centre of Istanbul. However, due to its location and the amount of people moved to the area, traffic is a major problem.
