Transportation to Turkey
Majority of the tourists enter Turkey by air. The busiest airport in Turkey is the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul which is 14 miles from the downtown of the city. The second airport of Istanbul is called Sahiba Gokcen Airport, especially hosting charter airlines and a small percentage of Turkish Airlines’ domestic flights. Other very popular airports are Adnan Menderes Aiport in Izmir, Antalya Airport, Milas – Bodrum Airport, Dalaman Airport and Esenboga located in Ankara. Turkish Airlines (THY) is the major air carrier company in Turkey, which was founded in 1933. The company has daily flights to all major European destinations and US. There are three daily flights from London, as well as several other destinations in UK and in other parts of Europe. Companies such as Thomas Cook and Easyjet also fly out to Turkey very frequently. Another Turkish company called Onur Air also fly to 17 Turkish resorts. Sunexpress Airlines, Lufthansa, Pegasus and German Wings fly from Germany to several resorts in Turkey daily as well. Other airline companies frequently used include British Airways, KLM and Air France.
