Historical City
Urbanization in Marmaris developed nearby the castle and spread to the destination from this area. The castle, marina and pier are called as historical city centre of Marmaris. All of the historical buildings in this region belong to 16-20th century, Ottoman Period. Historical structures around the castle were preserved and restored. Majorly it is being used as restaurants, bars and shopping centre.
Marmaris Castle and Museum
The only written source which mentioned the construction of Marmaris Castle is Seyahatname by Evliya Çelebi. Marmaris Castle was restored between 1980-1990 and opened to service as Marmaris Museum in 1991. It has seven closed places. It is very pleasant to visit and photograph the environment.
Two of the indoor sections are organized as archaeology rooms. Artefacts collected from the region, oil lamps made of baked clay, bottles, figurines, various vessels, glass works, arrow heads, coins and ornaments are on display in this hall. Daily life textiles, carpets, rugs, furnitures, copper kitchen utensils, weapons and ornaments belonging to Ottoman Period are on display in the ethnography hall. Other places are used as art galleries, offices and warehouses. The museum is open to visitors between 08.30-12.00 and 13.00-17.30 every day except Mondays during the tourist season. Bedesten
Historical Bedesten still protects its feature and currently used as a shopping centre. After Marmaris has become touristic, Bedesten was restored according to its originality.
Good Rocks Archaeology Park
Marmaris has gained a new park. This is an archaeological park. The region was included as a historic site and opened to visitors as a museum. Archaeological remains belonging to B.C 4th are on display in the park.
In the Vicinity of Pier and Yacht Marina
Marmaris Netsel Marina is a modern yacht marina which is the largest marina of the south of Aegean. The marina, which has 720 yacht capacities have all the services provided for the yachts. The bars and restaurants along the quay begins to fill before the sunset. There are all kinds of music and entertainment in Marmaris bars.
Marmaris Private Ethnography and Archaeology Museum
The museum is on Marmaris - Mugla highway. In the museum, which is 10 km away from Marmaris, there are works belonging to a collector, Ahmet Urkay. The museum can be visited in the seven days of the week for free.
“Blue Voyage” from Gokova Gulf
Gokova Gulf is the most preferred destinations of blue voyages. British Port is one of stopping points close to Marmaris and it isa beautiful place full of pine trees. There are restaurants that provide services to the boats in the English Port. Löngöz Bay is a great area for camping.
