Lefkosa (Nicosia)

Lefkosa is a destination full of great collection of Crusader Gothic and Turkish Ottoman monuments. Lefkosa was the capital of Lusignan kings and several places, churches and gardens staying since that time reflects this kingdom. Many of the cathedrals and churches were turned into mosques after Turks started to occupy the area.

Lefkosa is divided into two, Greek and Turkish, by the ‘Green Line’.  The Turkish side is very old and authentic, while the Greek section is very modern. Lefkosa has the highest temperature and humidity levels in the north section.

Dolmus runs regularly to Lefkosa from all the major cities in North Cyprus. It costs around £1 return. Although the traffic gets very heavy in the city centre, you do not need to drive as all the amenities are packed together.

Although eating options are not as many as Girne, the numbers are growing. Some of the restaurants and cafes you can try include Biyer, Boghialian Konak Restaurant, Saray Hotek, Umutlar and Simit Dunyasi. After lunch, you might also like to visit the Mevleve Tekke Museum or instead try Buyuk Hammam for a traditional Turkish bath.
