Izmir Konak Area Info
The centre of Izmir is considered as Konak, where the historical Clock Tower ( Saat Kulesi ) is located. The Clock Tower was built in 1901 at the anniversary of Sultan Abdulhamit’s ascension. The municipality newly renovated this old Avenue and buildings nearby. The famous Yali Konak Mosque and the Government House is located in Konak. The government house was built between 1868 and 1872. This building is very important as the Turkish flag was raised to this building after the Turkish Independence War on September 9th 1922. Majority of the properties in Konak centre are commercial. However, the outskirt of Konak such as Guzelyali and Goztepe have large number of residential properties.
