
The history of
Izmir dates back to 3000 BC and considered as a ‘city’ even in 800 BC. During those times, the city was located in today’s Bayrakli region. The city used to have street all intersecting each other with the same angle. It also had a harbour, good defence system and administrative system and sea borne trade. However
Izmir suffered major invasions and epidemics, but it rose from its own ashes. Some of the areas that you can still the marks of the old city are Tepekule, Agora in the Namazgah district and the ruins in Kadifekale. Some of the architects are shown in the Archaeological Museum. With the constructions taking place in the city, none of the authentic streets and properties survived. But
Izmir has been an important city in every era, and still is today.
