Five years ago, Buyukcekmece has been the destination that lacked even one major development. The area transformed itself massively and became the heart of construction. The demand to the area is enormous due to the cheap property prices, close proximity to the airport, perfect rental potential and its beautiful lake. The number of people moving to Buyukcekmece from the crowded Istanbul city centre is increasing rapidly.

Currently, Buyukcekmece has 250,000 properties in total including the Alkent Houses, Pelikan Hill, Tepekent and Toskana Vadisi Houses. The Astrum Towers will also be completed in May 2009 by the reputable developer, Regnum Homes. In the next 5 years, the area will have a further 50,000 properties.

Buyukcekmece had 20 shopping centres, large number of factories, conference centres and offices built in the past few years.  The municipality states that they are very close to turning this area into the heart of nightlife. Buyukcekmece will soon have a tower called Televisyon Kulesi ( Television Tower ) which will allow people to dine while the restaurant rotates. The full round will take around 55 minutes.

The current Buyukcekmece marina is being extended at the moment. The new marina will bring large amount of income to the area and it will be completed in 2010.
