2,565,638 tourists have come to İstanbul  in the first five months of 2009.

In the written statement, made by City Culture and Tourism Directorate, it is stated that 2,613,805 tourists visited Istanbul in the first five months of last year, it is also mentioned that this number is 2,565,638 in the same times of this year.

Datas taken from Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen Airports as well as Pendik and Karaköy ports, it is stated that the tourist number of this year has decreased at a rate of two percent when compared with January-May months of last year.

When looked at the countries the tourists came from, it is indicated that Germans took the first place with a rate of 14.5%. Respectively; the British (5.6 %), French and Russians (5.3%) , Italians (4.7 %) , Americans (4.3 %) , Dutch (3.9%) , Iranis (2.7%) , Spanish (2.7%) follow the German tourists.
